Dilek Alkaya
FY2015 President

Hi, My name is Dilek Alkaya, I am Advanced Control Engineer at Tesoro Golden Eagle Refinery and current President of SWE Mount Diablo Section. I am running for President of Mt Diablo Section for FY2015 to continue serving SWE Mt.D
My definition of success is through Communication, Collaboration and Contribution. During my leadership role at SWE Mount Diablo since 2010, I initiated a yearly theme for our section activities, FY2010 "CELEBRATE", FY2011 "GROWTH"; FY2012 "Success With Enthusiasm, SWE"; FY2013 added "Memorable Time & Dedication", contributed to our section activities and accelerated its dynamics within E/C and our members. Whatever we do, we put first things first, i.e. our members' needs. We won to host Region A Award Banquet in 2010, we grow our section activities, increased executive roles, received Region A's member retention award for 4 consecutive years since 2011 and we celebrated our section's 30th year anniversary in 2013... Thank you all…
I challenge all of us with continuing theme "Success With Enthusiasm : Memorable Time & Dedication" i.e. simply abbreviated as "SWE Mt D"!
As President of Mt Diablo Section, my commitments to you and to Mt Diablo E/C team are continuation of my open communication, support, enabling mutual growth and fun environment whatever role/activity we participate in. I hope you will do the same & help me/all of us at E/C team to serve/work with you in FY2015 to get the most benefit from y/our SWE memberships for all of y/our professional/personal growth goals and successes at work, at SWE, and at life through y/our SWE roles/participation/involvements. Join us at our events; follow us frequently at our section's Facebook, LinkedIn and at fresh look Website which includes past and upcoming activities, event pictures/video, our unique section event calendar; and reach us 24/7 through our feedback section.
On a personal note, I enjoy art and science; and motivated by learning, adding at least one new activity/task to my life every year; attending yoga, learning Japanese and joining GCC Walk program are a few of my previous years' additions.
My brief SWE history…I came to USA from METU Turkey in 1997 and worked as postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University till 2000. My involvement with SWE started a few years after I joined industry and through mentoring graduate school/female students in 2003. I envision mentor and mentee (M&M) partnership as "mutual learning SWEet and rewarding experience". I continue to do my formal match mentoring as available basis. With all these, SWE not only helped me to find/work on my strengths & weaknesses, it also helped me to build my professional/personal network when I relocated from East coast, PA to West coast, CA in 2005. I attended nearby SWE local chapter events and learnt more about the bay area, different activities, had met with many great professionals & made many good friends. I served at SWE Region A Leadership Pipeline, Officers Election Committee in the past and as Judge at SWE National Scholarship Committee.
Besides SWE, I held several chair/co-chair positions at AIChE National technical conferences since 1997 and served as member at the Board of Directors at AICHE National and as Membership Chair at AICHE's local NORCAL section between 2006 and 2008; as Vice Chair in FY2014 and current Chair in FY2015. I served as Area B6 Governor of Toastmasters in 2012 through which I held several sessions of Youth Leadership Programs since then ; as District Contest Chair in 2013 and as District Mentor Chair and Spring Conference co-chair for 2014.
